ASIC Mining Glossary
ASIC Miner
An ASIC miner is a machine built around application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs), chips designed to run one hashing algorithm very quickly and efficiently.
ASIC Mining
Why It Matters
Choosing an ASIC should start with the algorithm, the coin you want to mine, the cooling method, and the operating cost. Compare models in our ASIC miners collection and read how energy efficiency is measured.
What to Watch For
A SHA-256 machine cannot mine a Scrypt, X11, or Equihash coin, because its chips run only one algorithm. Match the algorithm to the coin before you buy. Machines for other algorithms are listed in our altcoin miners collection.
